Our Puppies

Each mating is carefully thought out. We look at the temperaments, trainability and working ability of the chosen dam and sire. We aim to produce top-quality, fit, healthy and confident puppies that have the potential to become excellent working gun dogs within the shooting field as well as being fantastic family pets and companions.

Our puppies are bred from extensively DNA tested dogs that have had BVA Hip and Elbow Dysplasia Screening. Our bitches and chosen sires have low hip scores and zero elbow scores. Each of our breeding bitches are paired with a carefully chosen sire. The bitch and the chosen stud dog will have both undergone annual BVA eye screening within the last twelve months prior to the mating. This ensures that their puppies eyes will be clear of any breed-associated eye abnormalities.

We aim to give our puppies the best possible start in life ensuring that they have quality nutrition, and the highest standard of health care. Our puppies are wormed with Drontal Puppy Liquid Wormer when they are 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks old. We also regularly check the puppy’s claws. When necessary, we clip the sharp points from the ends of their claws to prevent them from scratching their mother’s mammary glands.

We lovingly rear and handle our puppies so that they grow and develop into confident, well-socialised little beings within our busy household environment. We ensure that our puppies are exposed to lots of familiar day-to-day sounds such as people talking, our dogs barking, music playing on the radio, telephones ringing, the humming of the vacuum cleaner and the washing machine spinning etc.

When the puppies are a few weeks old, and if it is warm enough, we encourage the puppies to do their wees and poos outdoors. The patio doors from their enclosed pen open directly on to a safely enclosed patio area. This area is sanitised after use.

The puppies will be fully weaned on top quality puppy food when they leave us at eight weeks old. The puppies will have been microchipped by our local Petlog implanter. They will have had a health check with our registered veterinarian.

We will give you:

  • a puppy information pack that includes useful advice

  • a copy of the sale and endorsement contract that has been signed by both of us the breeders and you the purchaser of a puppy. (An endorsement can be lifted once you have conducted the necessary BVA tests as stipulated by the Kennel Club should you wish to breed your dog when it has reached the acceptable breeding age.)

  • your puppy’s five-generation Kennel Club pedigree certificate

  • a copy of our registered veterinarian’s puppy health check sheet so that you can pass this information on to your chosen veterinarian.

  •  Petlog microchip details unique to your puppy

  • a 2kg bag of Vetspec puppy food that your puppy has been weaned on to.

  • a small piece of vet bed and a puppy toy that has the scent of the puppy’s mother and siblings. We find that this may help your puppy to settle in to its new home.

  • 5 weeks free Kennel Club Insurance

Our prospective buyers needs are at the forefront of our vision when breeding and selling puppies. We screen all potential new owners prior to placement. Before we agree to sell a puppy to a prospective buyer, they have to first satisfactorily answer a questionnaire that we have personally devised in order to determine their suitability to buying a puppy.

We then speak to the prospective buyer and answer any questions they may have about buying a puppy. We need to be sure that a prospective buyer has the qualities of a responsible dog owner. We are mindful that different types of families and their home environment may require slightly different natured dogs.

We handle our puppies daily so that we can note the different behaviours of each puppy. This helps us to match the temperament and activity of our puppies to the most suitable owner. By assessing a family’s needs, and by looking at the different character traits of each puppy, we are then able to help the buyer to choose the right puppy for themselves.

Throughout the first eight weeks of the puppies’ lives we send regular updates with pictures and videos of the dam interacting with her puppies. We are also happy to facetime potential owners so that they are able to visually share the progress of the puppies and ask any questions.

When the puppies are six weeks old, and a deposit has been paid to secure a puppy we happily invite and warmly welcome new owners to our home so that they can see the dam and her puppies. This gives potential owners the opportunity to ask any questions about the puppies.

At all times we aim to build open and honest relationships with new owners. We provide ‘lifetime’ support to the owners of our puppies. We love to share a puppy’s progress, see how it grows and develops and give help and advice as appropriate. We have received some lovely positive testimonials from very happy and satisfied puppy owners. Kind words make our hard work very worthwhile.
